This is a brand new edition to the 2024 return of the Mountain Challenge Series.
The LMC offers you the rare chance to run in the remote Limietberg Mountains, through the watershed of the Witte River.
There will be 38km, 21km and 17km race options available.
The first 21km of this 38km circular race route links up Hawequas Gorge, the top of Du Toits Kloof pass and across to the Suurvlakte, before dropping down a Witter River tributary that splits the Hawekwa and Wittenberg mountain ranges. Upon joining the Witte River the route traverses the slopes of the Slanghoek Mountains before reaching Bain’s Kloof ‘Eerste Tol’. The second 16.5km leg is a series of private trails that traverses Doolhof Wine Estate, and along the Western slopes of ‘Die Sewe Sisters’ back to the finish at Hawequas
This race route is the first 21km of the 38km race route which links up Hawequas Gorge, the top of Du Toits Kloof pass and across to the Suurvlakte, before dropping down a Witter River tributary that splits the Hawekwa and Wittenberg mountain ranges. Upon joining the Witte River the route traverses the slopes of the Slanghoek Mountains before reaching your finish at Bain’s Kloof ‘Eerste Tol’. From here it’s a short bus transfer back to Hawequas.
The start line for this 16.5km race route is at Bain’s Kloof ‘Eerste Tol’ (short bus transfer from the race village). After a sharp descent down into the private trails of Doolhof Wine Estate, we traverse up to and along the Western slopes of ‘Die Sewe Sisters’ (1,388m) and cross over the ravines of Leeutuinsrivier & Horlosiekloof before dropping back into Hawequas.
This 7.5km loop has just shy of 400m of vert, taking you up to the 670m contour on Hugenootkop Ridge and the Adirondack Mountain Shelter. From this saddle it’s a fast 2.5km descent down the slopes of Mount Inglis and back to the finish.
