On the 16th of June 2024 we will host our First event on the Run the West Coast calendar for the 2024 West Coast Trail Series at the Karmenaadjie Farm Stall near Jacobsbaai.
The Farmstall is situated on Togryersvlei. Togryersvlei has been part of the Weste Coast since 1975. It served as a Claybrick Factory until 1986. After the factory closed, it fell into a dilapidated state due to lack of maintenance. Johan Nortier purchased the factory and grounds in 2007 and started renovations in 2008. Progress was slow but steady and the final finishing touches were done by early 2015.
From Togryersvlei you will run towards Jacob’s Bay via the Holvlei Farm. Holvlei, founded in 2016, by Klasie Loubser, a native farmer of the region with almost 40 years of agricultural experience. Klasie has farmed commercially with both crops and Aberdeen Angus cattle. He served as the chairman of the SA Angus Society and has extensive experience in aggregate mining.
Jacobsbaai was founded as a small town on the farmland registered as 109 Jacobsbaai. The name is said to have come from the Frenchman Jacques Titius. He was a colonial trader in the West Coast. Tietiesbaai is also named after him, and Jacobsbaai has a street called Titius. Another explanation for the name is that the English king entrusted the piece of land to a local known as ‘Jacob’, a chief of the Gonneman Hottentots.
Run The West Coast is a Trail Run series for the whole family. Young and old can enter and it is suitable for all fitness levels. Walkers are welcome on the 5km and 10km distances. Please do not walk the 25km distance.
